Sunderland travel to Bloomfield Road to face Blackpool, hoping to make it three consecutive wins in the EFL Championship. The Black Cats head into the match on the back of a 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic on Thursday, while the hosts lose 2-1 to Sheffield United on the same day. The win helped the visitors move up to fourth in the English second tier standings, having collected 37 points from 25 games, while Blackpool are 23rd in the 24-team table with only 25 points to their name. The last meeting between these two sides in October ended in a goalless draw.

Since the resumption of competitive action following the World Cup break, Sunderland have been in impressive form, winning three of their five matches this month. Last time out, the Black Cats opened the scoring through Alice Sims in the 19th minute, before Ross Stewart, Patrick Roberts and Amad Diallo found the back of the net in the final 24 minutes to find all three points against Wigan. Tony Mowbray’s side have now failed to score in only one of their last 10 games, and they are in a good position to fight for promotion to the top tier of English football.
Blackpool, on the other hand, went on an eight-game winless streak in the Championship. Their last fixture against Sheffield United ended in defeat despite the fact that Marvin Ekpiteta found the back of the net. It was the Seasiders’ 12th league defeat of the campaign. Michael Appleton’s side are currently two points off safety and after the Sunderland-game, they face Watford and a resurgent Huddersfield in their next fixtures.
