Champions League: What we learnt from the Round of 16 draw

The UEFA Champions League group stage 2022/23 ended less than a week ago and already the focus has shifted to the knockout stages. Following the regular procedures, the draw was held in Zurich, Switzerland on Monday. Fans and forecasters were already involved in predicting ties and clubs now have a little over three months to prepare for the round of 16.

A repeat of last year’s final involving Real Madrid and Liverpool, as well as the matchup between 2020 finalists, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, were undoubtedly the pick of the fixtures. Last year, they conceded a crushing defeat against Real Madrid and this time they will face another stern test at Bayern Munich. Only time will tell whether PSG paid a heavy price to finish second in their group after Benfica toppled them on the final matchday. The Paris owners’ dream of winning the Champions League faces a major hurdle in the form of Bayern Munich, who will surely fancy their chances of eliminating the French side.
