FIFA World Cup 2022 Venues: Lusail Iconic Stadium

A total of eight stadiums will host matches throughout the World Cup in Qatar. Given that this is the first time that the country will host a major international tournament, all the stadiums were built anew and will be used on the global scene for the first time. For the first time, all the venues used for the World Cup will be used for knockout round matches. Let’s take a look at the first venue, the Lusail Iconic Stadium.

Lusail Iconic Stadium

The Lusail Iconic Stadium is the largest of the eight stadiums that will host World Cup events. Capacity wise it has a capacity of 80,000 making it one of the largest stadiums in the world. The opulence and splendor of the stadium shows how important the tournament is to Qatar. Its construction started in April, 2017 and is slated to open in November, 2021. In September 2022, the Lusail Iconic Stadium hosted the Saudi-Egyptian Super Cup between Al-Hilal and Zamalek.

The fixtures will be held at the Lusail Iconic Stadium

The Lusail Iconic Stadium is to host 10 fixtures in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The group stage match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia will be the first of these. The stadium will get the opportunity to host both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as Portugal will also play their game here against Uruguay. The stadium will also host 16 fixtures, one quarter-final, one semi-final and the biggest football fixture, the FIFA World Cup Final.
