FIFA World Cup 2022 Venues: Stadium 974


The pinnacle of football achievement at the international level is the FIFA World Cup. Many famous players have emerged from the illustrious rivalry over the years. Because of the importance of honor and glory, many great football-playing nations have participated in the World Cup during its long history, which has spanned more than nine decades. Excitement is building among supporters for the 2022 edition in Qatar as the date draws closer.

A total of eight stadiums in Qatar will host games in the World Cup. All the stadiums are newly built and will be used at the world level for the first time as this is the first time the country will be hosting an important international competition. The knockout round matches will be played across all World Cup venues for the first time. Let’s take a detailed look at Stadium 974.

Stadium 974

The stadium is a temporary venue made of 974 recycled shipping containers and will be functional during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It would be the first time in the history of the competition that a temporary venue would be used. The procurement process for the stadium began in 2017. It was officially launched in November 2021. Stadium 974 hosted five matches during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup. The capacity of the stadium is around 40,000 people.

Fixtures to be held at Stadium 974

Stadium 974 is scheduled to host five matches during the duration of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The first match to be held there will be a Group C encounter between Mexico and Poland. Whereas, the last match will be a Round of 16 match between the winners of Group G and the runners-up of Group H. It will also be the only knockout match the stadium will host.
